A little bit about us.
We are Crux and Axiom, a Touring Ultimate Frisbee system based out of Hamilton. Crux is synonymous with core, and that is what we're about, creating a strong core for Ultimate Frisbee in Hamilton and improving the core abilities of our players. Axiom is a statement that is taken to be true, to serve as a premise or starting point for further reasoning. Our objective is to provide a fun and enjoyable environment in which players strive develop their skills. Crux is a mixed competitive Ultimate team and Axiom is a mixed development Ultimate team, both based out of Hamilton. We practice once a week to develop our team cohesion, individual skills, and fitness. Our season runs from April to August during that time we compete at tournaments in Ontario, travelling outside the province once a year to compete at the Canadian Ultimate Championships. Our team is dedicated to encouraging and improving players in the sport of Ultimate Frisbee, with a special emphasis on our three core tenets:
GENDER EQUITY,
We are committed to helping develop women in the community. Since 2018, we have been taking an even roster of Female and Male, including Roles, with 6 handlers and 8 cutters of each gender. We also committed to playing both genders equally through before Ratio Rule A "Perscribed Ratio". We also push for GE on the field and this year at CUC 2022 our stats showing that our women matching players scored 56% of our Assists, 69% of our goals for a total of 62% of our stats, that was the highest ratio of Women to Open matching stats in the mixed division. For reference Women matching players in the mixed division scored 25% of the total Assists, 38% of the total Goals for 32% of the overall stat points. We look to continue developing and empowering Women Matching players on our team and pushing for expanded gender equity within the Mixed division.
COMMITMENT,
We focus on commitment to the team through attendance, respect and communication, to that end throughout the 2022 season Crux had an average of 20 players at practices out of our roster of 24 which was roughly 83% attendance with another 5% of absences being due to either Covid-19 or injuries. We also had similarly around 84% attendance at tournaments throughout the summer.
EXCELLENCE,
Crux has qualified and attended Canadian Ultimate Championships every year of our existence (2017,2018,2019,(UCI) 2021,2022 & 2023), qualifying in our first year as Ontario's 8th bid and coming 19th of 20 at Nationals. In 2018, we qualified as Ontario's 4th bid and finished 16th of 20, after losing universe point games to both the eventual 12th and 14th place teams. In 2019, in a strong field we finished 7th of 16 to qualify for nationals and then 19th of 20 at nationals. In 2022, we finished 5th of 14 at regionals and 12th of 20 at nationals. In 2023, we finished 5th of 13 at regionals and had our best yet finish of 11th of 20 at CUC.

History.
Crux was founded in 2017 by captains Becky Abrametz, Michael "Lincoln" Abrametz, Mike "Daryl" Danh and Myfannwy Pope. In our inaugural season we secured Ontario's 8th mixed bid to nationals and placed 19th in the Mixed Division of the Canadian Ultimate Championships, held in Saskatoon. In our second year, under the helm of the leadership crew of Becky Abrametz, Michael "Lincoln" Abrametz, Braden Armstrong, Matthew Caldwell and Melissa Vandersluis, we came 4th at Ontario Ultimate Championships securing Ontario's 4th bid to Nationals and placed 16th at Canadian Ultimate Championships. In our third year we won on universe point against Crank in the game to go to Nationals in an especially competitive year to qualify. Our fourth and fifth years brought some different challenges; as the pandemic hit we opted for a virtual season and continued to build team culture as well as our athletes through virtual, weekly practices. In 2022, we hit the fields again working our way up to 12th and 11th at respective nationals. We are looking ahead to our 2024 season, gearing up to continue climbing the proverbial ladder!
